ABSTRACT - THE ART OF DESIGN.

The Netflix series Abstract is something that has made me think of the design field and how it really has made an impact on the world. Regardless of what I have been told my whole school life, you can become a successful designer if you put your mind to it, even as a Dane with the danish society and their norms hanging over you!

This documentary focuses each episode on a specific famous designer and their field. The designers are The Danish super designer and architect Bjarke Ingels, and Ilse Crawford from the fields of interior design along with the photographer Platon. Graphic designer Paula Scher, car designer Ralph Gilles, Nike shoe designer Tinker Hatfield, illustrator Christoph Niemann and stage designer Es Devlin.

Here you see how the designers work, what their thoughts behind a design process and product is developed and shaped and you get a good feeling about their personality and the way they think. You see then working on projects, and see them talk about their previous objects and what has inspired them, as well as where they are in their lives now.
Along with amazing videography and music makes the experience of digging into the thoughts of some of the coolest designers in the world really inspiring!

If you aren't in the field of design in any way I would reccomend you watching this documentary. Maybe it will change your aspect of the design world a bit! Hopefully anyway!

SERIES: SKAM

The series that I want to talk about today, is for the Scandinavians out there an old but good topic. The Norwegian ultra hit: “SKAM” or “SHAME” in English has hit Scandinavia hard with its 3 seasons out already. There are words, fashion style and even ways of describing people that have been created because of this series. It is now out with English subtitles and everyone can become just as hooked!

“Skam” is about a group of young people at a Sixth Form College/High school in Oslo. The main characters change from each season with the focus on the same group of friends. The characters are incredibly well played and you find it easy to relate to the things they go through. By this you can compare it to the British series “Skins”.

In addition to this though the themes that are being taken up are themes that provoke the audience to have an opinion about or get it. Themes such as homosexuality, mental disorders, drugs, affairs, politics and religion and how for example these topics are being dealt with in modern society right now and how the youth deals with it.

Finally the filming of this series is fantastic. It is seeking to be as close to their audience as possible - both in terms of plot, marketing and media choices; clips and updates from the next episode is put up on social media as a teaser, their messenger threads can be read and the main characters’ fictional Instagram profiles can be followed.  his adds an extra layer and makes the viewer interact with the plot. By following the different tracks you can literally expand the experience and the plot.

Being the tumblr girl that I am, yes it is a term, and having grown up on the internet and especially this platform in my mid-teens, has inevitably introduced me to the discussions on society’s norms and taboos. And also how to break these norms and taboos, sometimes in very extreme and radical ways.

But when a tv series produced and released by the national broadcaster introduce the public to these norms in such an easy and amusing way. Then it becomes much easier to let the taboos sink in and make them less of a taboo by acknowledging them. I believe this is the kind of tv we are gonna see much more of!

All I can say is that I am starstruck and would recommend it every single person no matter age, social class or religion. It needs to be seen!

MY FAVOURITE PODCASTS OF THE YEAR

I have been listening to a lot of podcasts this year. I watch a lot of youtube videos, but when I am having to do chores where I need to look at the things I do, the best thing is to listen to some podcasts! I am not super good at being home alone and I feel like as long I can listen to music or people talking, I feel safe!

I listen to my podcasts when I am biking to and back from work every day now and also in the shower, basically whenever I can!

These are my favourite English podcasts:

Serial

Of course, everyone has both heard about this and listened to the whole podcast already. But I needed to throw it in here since this was the podcast that made me hooked on podcasts. While standing sanding wood during my carpentry course.

I listened to both seasons of this. The first about the high school girl Hae Min Lee that was killed and the ex-boyfriend Adnan Syed who get arrested for her murder. And the whole problematic of him saying he is innocent but can’t remember exactly what he was doing that day!

In the Dark

Another crime podcast about the disappearing of 11-year-old Jacob Wetterling and how it has taken 27 years to solve the crime. You follow the people who have been touched by this, his family and people who have been of interest in the whole case.
If you liked Serial, you would love this podcast as well!

The Mystery Show

A more light weight show, where host Starlee Kine tries to solve the every day mysteries of her friends. The structure of the podcast is a lot like serial and in the dark, with a problematic and the host trying to solve the problem, but this has a humoristic touch!

Also one of the episodes is about Jake Gyllenhaal’s height, and the host end up talking to Jake himself about this!

My Dad Wrote A Porno

This is definitely the funniest one of them all. I am still listening to this one, as there are 2 seasons so far of it. It is what the title says, a podcast about a son and his father's porno book. I have had SO many weird looks when I have been biking and literally laughing out loud because of this podcast.

Basically, Jamie Morton decided, after finding out his dad has written a porno book, to share it with everyone. Him and his two friends, James Cooper and Alice Levine reads the book and comments along the way and strip the whole sexiness (if there were any) off of the book by questioning everything his dad has wrote!

Go listen to all of these and tell me what you think of them!

I was reading Mariell's blog and fell completely in love with her new series of secret photos on her phone. The little peek into her every day was really interesting. SO I thought I would share some with you guys as well. Otherwise feel free to add me on snapchat at sisselwarringa.

THE WEEKEND EDIT.

Last weekend Matt wasn't home so I thought I would invite my sister and mum to come visit.
They would arrive late friday, so I went to meet up with my friends where I got quite tipsy on cheap rosé and expensive beer. I had bought bread and fishcakes for a late night dinner when my sister and mum arrived.
Saturday was filled with shopping (as it always does when sis and mother visits) and dinner at Papirøen where we stayed till very very late talking to all kinds of people and having 5 different meals.
Sunday we cleared out the basement, painted the front door (finally!!!) and went to IKEA to buy a few bits and bobs and after that we went to Charlottenlund Slot (Charlottenlund Palace) to sit and draw in the garden. We were supposed to go to the art museum Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek, to draw all the statues, but didn't really have time. The weekend ended with sushi for the belly!!
