The Netflix series Abstract is something that has made me think of the design field and how it really has made an impact on the world. Regardless of what I have been told my whole school life, you can become a successful designer if you put your mind to it, even as a Dane with the danish society and their norms hanging over you!
This documentary focuses each episode on a specific famous designer and their field. The designers are The Danish super designer and architect Bjarke Ingels, and Ilse Crawford from the fields of interior design along with the photographer Platon. Graphic designer Paula Scher, car designer Ralph Gilles, Nike shoe designer Tinker Hatfield, illustrator Christoph Niemann and stage designer Es Devlin.
Here you see how the designers work, what their thoughts behind a design process and product is developed and shaped and you get a good feeling about their personality and the way they think. You see then working on projects, and see them talk about their previous objects and what has inspired them, as well as where they are in their lives now.
Along with amazing videography and music makes the experience of digging into the thoughts of some of the coolest designers in the world really inspiring!
If you aren't in the field of design in any way I would reccomend you watching this documentary. Maybe it will change your aspect of the design world a bit! Hopefully anyway!
