lamp S40

how can metal become softer in its appearance?

 -  the S40 lamp is made as a continuous bend so it becomes both a foot and a shade for the lamp. the open shape helps to give a variety to the light intensities by creating a direct light (shade) - indirect light (gap) adding an ambient/mood light the acts as a contrast to the hard metal.  the inspiration was to make metal become softer in its appearance by experimenting and making organic shapes into or out of a hard/solid material such as metal. the question of what the same process of turning/ twisting do to each shape when using  circles  with different circumferences and cut outs,  shapes    such as letters or rectangles and  light    as a material and a source was raised.
