Anker Dining Table, London, 2020

anker dining table  —

anker dining table  —

Anker’ is a multi-faceted, multi usable dining table that extends both its length and its usability. Expanding to meet the needs throughout the day and throughout life.

Based on primary research and interviews, the ‘Anker table’ came to life. Investigating the habitual and emotional ways we interact with and are influenced by the dining table in our homes. Exploring the everchanging scenarios around the epicentre of the home, the dining table. The focus of the ‘Anker table’ is the pull-out system which makes the table a multi- faceted, multi usable piece of furniture that extends both its length and its usability. Expanding to meet the needs throughout the day and throughout life. The name ‘Anker’ is a tribute to my Scandinavian roots while symbolising the table’s ability to be dissembled and brought with you to your new home and lay anchor again. Taking your anchor with you throughout your life. The table is an interpretation of the traditional leaf tables, but by changing the sliding function slightly, opening up to the mechanism, the expandable function becomes a visible reminder, which invites the user to engage with the pull-out system.

Shortlisted in a live project with Robin and Lucienne Day Foundation.
